Visitor Info
The Kang Ren Clinic and Retreat Centre is located in Dragon Woods on Denman Island, BC, Canada. Denman Island is nestled into the verdant Comox Valley, just off the eastern side of Vancouver Island. The nearest city is Courtenay, and Nanaimo, the location of BC Ferries terminals, is about an hour and a half drive south of Denman Island.
To get to Denman from Vancouver Island, take either the seaside route or the Inland Island Highway north from Nanaimo and exit at the Denman Island Ferry turnoff. Be sure to arrive at the Buckley Bay terminal in plenty of time to catch the sailing you want.
There’s not much in Buckley Bay besides the Petro Canada service centre at the small BC Ferries terminal. You can get cash at the ATM, subs and snacks, drinks, and fresh seafood at the Fish Shop downstairs.
The grounds here in Dragon Woods evolve magically every season, as we prepare sacred space for those who come to taste the peace and tranquility of rural life. We welcome Kang Ren guests from near and far, and look forward to meeting you. If you need more information about getting to our clinic please check this local resource.

Accommodation options for your stay include on-site camping in Dragon Woods, an exquisite selection of local Bed & Breakfasts, or the popular Denman Guesthouse. We also offer some limited, shared space for those with special needs. Barbara Kane at Hawthorne House B&B offers accommodation at a discounted rate for clients of the Kang Ren Clinic. Please call her at 250-335-0905 for booking information.
This island is a delicate eco-system and the folks who live here treat it with utmost respect. We kindly ask that visitors do the same, but most importantly WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY and enjoy your stay!
